My most memorable moments are not in the gym, training or on top of an Olympic podium; they are in my everyday life experiences.
Moments like these are unforgettable:
- Following a speech, a middle-aged woman approaches me and tells me how my “Envision” speech really inspired her to go to college. She expresses how going to college had been a dream of hers, but she had never felt the motivation to move forward on this goal until she heard my message.
- In New York, a 4 year old jumps out of her stroller to show me her cartwheel. She was so proud to show me how hard she had worked on this skill. The funny part is that she didn’t even know very much about me and my Olympic accomplishments - all she knew is that she saw me on Sesame Street demonstrating basic skills in gymnastics. Her mother told me that after that segment aired her daughter begged her to sign her up for gymnastics lessons. more...
